Last week at Enonic - 2017, week 40

Last Week

Scroll down for the latest XP news, we’ve reached Release Candidate stage of 6.12.

Last week yours truly and Glenn of Enonic held a stand at the Mobile Era conference. Glenn also gave a lightning talk about GraphQL and how it lowered development time for our Office League PWA. This week Glenn will be talking more about Office League, PWA and GraphQL, at Google and the Oslo PWA meetup. Its full now, but be on the lookup for any re-released spots.

Enonic is hiring! We need to grow our team in Oslo with a “Partneransvarlig” ad (in Norwegian).

Here’s some interesting articles popping up last week, related to Web Development in general.

Ballon.css is a nice little project that makes use of CSS only to display tiny tooltip bubbles on your website. Similar libraries rely also on JavaScript. One less http request!

Image optimisation is a science of its own. Addy Osmani, engineer manager at Google, released this free ebook diving deeply into the subject and all the techniques.

If you don’t already do SVG compression, you should. Loads of bits to save! SVGomg is a handy open tool that assist you in this.

Google developers are discussing to implement the async-attribute on images for their Blink engine (used by Chrome, Opera). It would let developers control image loading better.

Google’s AMP project (to deliver faster webpages using some custom scripts and markup) is about to change name to Instant.

Send me a private message if you happen to stumble over something interesting this week.

Enonic Releases

Enonic XP 6.12 is in Release Candidate stage, the final stage before we ship. Last week saw the release of RC1 which surfaced one nasty bug related to images. We’ve fixed it and released RC2 just now! Two bug-free days after that and we’ll be releasing 6.12!

6.12 will contain many new things. Like the possibility to flip images left, right, and/or mirror them. This will not break the original image, so any effects can easily be reverted directly from the Content Studio interface. We’ve also added for developers the ability to limit amount of characters in text-fields, and limit numeric ranges in numeric fields.
