Last week at Enonic - 2018, week 33

Last Week

Last week we planned all the training sessions for the rest of the year, scroll down to training for the full schedule. Next Content 101-course quickly filled up, a new Content-course is therefore planned in October.

Last week also saw a lot of work on fixing smaller issues in 6.15, meaning we’ll release 6.15.1 this week. We also released a feature overview video for 6.15, but since it was our first shot at doing such a video we also learned a lot about the process itself and will soon release a re-recorded one with improved sound and content (even shorter). Hopefully the remake will arrive this week.

This week you can’t miss our first Developer Meetup after the summer. This time around we’re trying out the breakfast seminar-format. It will be held in our offices, starting at 08:30, on Wednesday. During this meetup we’ll show you 6.15, talk about chatbots, and talk about our plans for 7.0 - developers should not miss this!

Other cool things happening this week that I want to mention is that our awesome team of developers from Minsk, Belarus, is here in Oslo. The office is crowded! One of them, Pavel, will be one of the speakers on our Developer Meetup.

Now that I’ve already mentioned 7.0 I might tease you a bit around all the exciting things we have planned (mostly for developers). We’re working on a brand new CLI (Command Line Interface) for XP, making it easier to swap between multiple projects, XP instances, XP_HOME’s, and even Java. It will be a exciting new way to develop for XP, expect things like enonic-cli create new project. On the backend, we’re deep into researching the upgrade to Java 10, and also bumping ElasticSearch up to 2.x.

Since 7.0 is mainly focused on the internal workings of the XP server itself, editors won’t notice much of a difference. But, we have a few frontend developers that we need to keep busy, and they are working on exciting new things for 7.0. A new Translations app is being closely built with 7.0. It will make handling multi-language websites easier. The app will be stand alone, and only for enterprise customers. Look forward to more news on this during the autumn. Also at work is a user permission report tool, giving you a full overview of all capabilities across your system.
