Last week at Enonic - 2018, week 5

Last Week

Last Week we took the entire Enonic team for a visit to Berlin, Germany. Our awesome team of developers from Minsk, Belarus, also joined us, as did our London, UK, office. During that visit we all got to build our very own PWAs, exploring the APIs of GeoLocation, camera, microphone, and many more. It was a fun and challenging task, and we all based our new PWAs on the XP PWA Starter, and so can you!

Still not building PWAs? This Thursday we’ll host the now fully booked (65 seats taken) Oslo PWA meetup. If you sign up but can’t come, be sure to notify us on Meetup so people from the waitlist can join instead!
Next week we’ll continue in the spirit of PWA and run a “build your first PWA” workshop using Enonic XP.

New former Enonic CMS site - EFN - is now live on XP (in Norwegian).

This round of hiring concluded last week when we signed the last piece of our puzzle. We welcome a new Demand Generation Manager, a Partner Manager, and a new Enonic XP(ert) consultant! They all will start with us during the coming months, one already last week.

Keep connected here in our forums and through our open Slack channels.

Enonic Releases

We’re still hard at work on 6.14, but no fixed release date just yet. Keep yourself updated here in our forums.

If you’re not updated on the many great new things we’ll see in 6.14, I can give you yet another hint. “Exploding” fragments will now be possible, meaning you could use a fragment on a page, “un-fragment” it and customize it for that page specifically. Just like how Templates work.

Enonic Market

Enonic Market had these updates last week:

Social Macros 1.2.0 - Allow fullscreen for embedded Youtube videos, and upgrade to Gradle 4.

Menu Lib 2.0.1 - Manual sorting values from Content Studio now taken into account (while still being very fast).

Further reading

Here’s some interesting articles that surfaced last week, related to Web Development in general.

Stimulus - Yet another JS framework, by the creator of Ruby on Rails. Relies more on data attributes, and focuses around controller, actions, and targets.

Napkins 2.0 - Sketch on a napkin or any piece of paper, then scan it with Ink to Code app from Microsoft.

Send me a private message if you happen to stumble over something interesting this week.

Events

The following events are planned so far:

Oslo PWA - 8th of February - Held in Oslo, the next PWA meetup will teach you many great things. How to get started with notifications, for instance.

Developer Meetup - 14th of February - Our next developer meetup will be a workshop were we will together setup our first Progressive Web App (from scratch, using XP). This will be a great way for you to kickstart 2018!

Training

We provide professional training for developers, editors, and marketers. These training events are coming up, but more are available! Need custom training, or training on other dates, or other locations? Contact us!

Don’t forget to certify yourself as an XP developer!

See you next week!
