Last week at Enonic - 2018, week 6

Last Week

Last week’s Oslo PWA meetup was held in our offices, it was fully book and we had a lot of interesting talks. Enonic’s very own Pavel Milkevich gave a presentation about push notifications, one of many functions web now can do that only native apps did in the early days.

Enonic’s own Developer Meetup will be held Wednesday this week, in the spirit of PWA. We’ll hold a “build your first PWA” workshop using Enonic XP. All vacant spots are taken, if you signed up and can’t come, please forgfeit your reservation (we practise a no-show policy).

Keep connected here in our forums and through our open Slack channels.

Enonic Releases

No new releases last week. We’re still hard at work on 6.14, we are aiming for a release before the end of February! This means we’ll enter feature freeze pretty soon. Keep yourself updated here in our forums.

A core strategy for us for some while now is to break the behemoth Enonic XP core into many smaller parts. That work continues with 6.14, where the login screen will be an app of its own. You will not need to download it separately (everything is still bundled in one download), but updates and maintenance will be much easier for us, and open for improved customization for developers. It will also have its own repository on Github (and still be open source, of course).

Enonic Market

Enonic Market had these updates last week:

Corporate Theme 1.1.0 - Introduces many minor fixes, and a new handy News-feature to maintain news articles on your website.

Guillotine - Headless CMS 1.0.0 - Our Headless CMS app (called “Guillotine”) reached 1.0 and graduated. Add it to any site to make it headless. Great for proof-of-concepts. The App uses the Lib in the background, taking some shortcuts to make setup easier.

Guillotine Lib 1.0.0 - If you really mean business with going headless, you should check out the lib. It let’s you control all the aspects of turning your site headless using the powerful and fast GraphQL API.

Further reading

Here’s some interesting articles that surfaced last week, related to Web Development in general.

Might we see Material Design 2 this year? - Rumors spreads as rough commit reaches the public’s ever vigilant eyes.

Full support for PWA soon in Microsoft Store - Microsoft believes PWAs are “the key to the web’s future”, they will start now to crawl and index wild PWAs directly into their store! Great news for PWA!

Send me a private message if you happen to stumble over something interesting this week.
