Last week at Enonic - 2018, week 8

Last Week

Last week Enonic XP 6.14 went into feature freeze. This means you can now grab betas from our distro repository. The betas will keep coming until we’re sure all bugs are fixed, at which we’ll start doing RC - Release Candidates. When all bugs are squashed we’re ready to release - not sooner, not later.

This Thursday (1st of March) we’ll run the quarterly breakfast seminar for content editors and marketers. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible! And do spread the word at work. Posten and Qbrick will present, as well as Enonic. Yours truly will be showing off all the new things in 6.14, as well as 6.13 for those who need a recap demonstration.

Stay in touch here in our forums and on our open Slack channels.

Enonic Releases

We’re still hard at work on 6.14 and just now went into feature freeze, meaning you might be running it in a few weeks. One of many new features are that you can now have the admin interface in Polish. This is the 8th language XP will be able to speak.

Keep yourself updated here in our forums.

Enonic Market

Enonic Market had these updates last week:

Corporate Theme 1.1.1 - Added field for setting author(s) on articles, and other minor fixes.

Further reading

Here’s some interesting articles that surfaced last week, related to Web Development in general.

Replacing jQuery With Vue.js - A guide on how to replace jQuery with Vue.js - No Build Step Necessary!

Optional Chaining may be coming to JavaScript - Developing for XP, you’d sure experienced a lot of “no function x() of undefined” when manipulating the JSON data. Optional chaining would solve that, and it just might become native in JavaScript.

Learn CSS Variables in 5 minutes - For years we used Sass/Less/etc to get more powers out of CSS. Now, browser support for native variables is actually pretty good. And accessing these (and manipulating them) from JavaScript works surprisingly well.

CSS Grid for UI Layouts - Practical examples of using CSS Grid for different layouts.

Styling Empty Cells With Generated Content And CSS Grid Layout - When using CSS Grid you might run into the need to style empty “cells”, this is how.

7 Practical Tips for Cheating at Design - Improving your designs with tactics instead of talent.
