We have released a new version of Sitemap.xml app which enables setting a limit of how many items can be included in the sitemap.xml file.
This limit has always been hardcoded to 10.000 which could lead to performance issues on big amounts of content. Default value is still 10.000 but now you can easily change this to a comfortable value via site config.
